Some Notes on the Novel Bus Designed for Maximum Seating Capacity and Rapid Unloading.
IN our issue for June 7th we described at some length a new design of double-deck bus with an unusual arrangement of the seating, and with separate entrances and exits for both decks. At that time we were able to publish only a preliminary drawing, which actually depicted a vehicle having accommodation for 74 seats only, but we have now received the final drawings from the designer, Mr. Henry Watson, 70, Ross Road, 'Wallington, Surrey, and we have extracted from these three which show the front exits for both decks and a movable front staircase.
The ratio of lower and upper deck as regards seating capacity is in this case 7 to 9; with a 7-to-8i ratio the capacity is reduced to only 76 seats.
The main dimensions of this vehicle would be as follow ;—Length overall, 30 ft.; width, 7 ft. 4 ins.; heighf, 14 ft. 2 ins.; mean wheelbase, 19 ft.; height of floor, 2 ft. 2 ins.; headroom, lower deck, 5 ft. 10.j ins.; upper deck, 5 ft.
9 ins.; overstairs, 6 ft. 3 ins.; seat spacing, 2 ft. 3 ins.; width of entrances and exits, 1 ft. 101 ins.; stair risers, rear, 104 ins.; front, 10i ins. In the case of the high ratio 35 persons are seated on the lower deck and 45 on the upper ; with the lower ratio the equivalent figures are 35 and 41.
