year's Bus and Coach Exhibition at Earl's Court Taperlite tapered leaf springs are now being marketed by their manufacturer Tinsley Bridge as retro-fit units for passenger service vehicles. So far, the company has made available kits for Leyland Leopard, Seddon Pennine 7 and Bristol RENRT buses. Late this summer conversion kits are ex pected to be offered for Leyland Atlantean and Daimler Fleetline models.
Taperlite parabolically tapered steel springs are subjected to a pre-setting and strain peening process which gives them a life of up to three and a half times that of conventional multi-leaf springs according to Tinsley Bridge. Weight savings of up to 50% on conventional suspensions are also claimed, and ride is said to be comparable with that of air suspension.
