• John Cole has resigned as managing director of logistics group Hays after the company announced a second-half profit warning last week.
The news comes as the group prepares to take on Royal Mail by applying for a licence to deliver letters to business addresses (CM14-20 June).
If the licence is granted Hays would become the first serious competitor to Royal Mail since the postal market was opened to competition in March.
Hays spokesman David Beckley says that the service would be trialled for 12 months with the group's DX division delivering to 27,000 addresses in central London. Manchester and Edinburgh.
"DX is the largest overnight distribution network for documents and this gives us a golden opportunity to use that network," he adds.
