• A Dumfries haulier has been hit by fuel thieves two nights in a row, costing his firm up to £1.000 in stolen diesel.
On 12 March fuel was stolen from five of Charlie Lauder Transport's vehicles which were parked at a yard on the Heathhall Industrial Estate in Dumfries.
The following day Lauder replaced all the locks and caps on his tanks but was horrified to discover on Thursday morning that the thievi had returned and stolen more fuel from his trucks.
"It was really distressing," he says. "We have lost in it region of £500-£1000 worth of diesel."
Lauder has now taken to putting as many vehicles as t can in the locked workshop and parking his tippers again: the wall so would-be thieves would be forced to climb uncir the vehicles to get at the fuel.
He adds: "There is currently no security park in Dumfric apart from Currie European Transport which uses it for it own vehicles. We are considering putting a fence around th whole yard but this will cost a lot so we may charge people t rent space at night to cover the cost of the wages of a secu rity guard sitting in a cabin.
In a separate incident diesel was stolen from a truc parked at a yard on the Newton Road Industrial [stair Dumfries, between 18:50hrs and 20:50hrs on 14 March.
