out onto the streets of Bolton to see it in operation. The driver works It from two control boxes. The external control box has two handles: one to direct the oil reservoir to hook/sheet application; the other to lift the cover sheet over the bin. The second control box Is internal, mounted over the engine cover In the cab with the PTO switch In the centre of the dash.
The process has changed little over the years. After bringing the sheet back over the bin the driver returns to the cab for the rest of the operation. The control system is pneumatic rather than electric to avoid any problems with water or dirt on site.
The off-loading process starts by Putting the axle jacks down onto the springs on the rear bogie to stabilise the truck. The second lever releases the load locks on the bin over the rear axles.
The driver raises the bin through the first stage then moves to the second control lever to Itft it off the back. When the bin touches down the driver releases the handbrake to let the truck move away to avoid any damage being caused by obstacles or damaged wheels at the rear of the bin. On this demo vehicle the system is limited to 1,200rpm an the PTO.
