As a member of the Manchester Transport Training Group's finance and general purposes committee. I was rather surprised to read (CM, April 23) of your proposal to the RTITB for the training of Class 3 and 4 unemployed drivers to Class 1 and 2 as a service to the industry.
My colleagues support you entirely in this matter, but it should be clarified that the proposal originally came from the Manchester Transport Training Group some considerable time ago, largely through the efforts of the training officer, Mr Jack Wood who presented this format to the DEP. also through correspondence with senior officials of the RTITB at Capitol House.
Whilst we do appreciate the co-operation we have received from your publication since we commenced our activities, we consider the credit for such a realistic suggestion foi the industry, should be assigned tothe original source.

[All honour to Mr Wood for his initiative, which has been reported in previous issues o, CM; the recommendation made in ourApril issue was in rather wider terms, covering non. transport men as well as Class 3 drivers. Wi hope the RTITB may extend its facilities tc cater for all those who may help to relieve the industry's shortage of top-category drivers, —Ed.1
