vehicle involved in a fatal accident in February 1997 has had one of its trucks suspended for two months by North Eastern Traffic Commissioner Keith Waterworth.
White Rose Transport appeared before the TC at a Leeds disciplinary inquiry where he granted a bid to add five trailers to its licence for 10 vehicles and 12 trailers.
Director Ian Brewer said although the vehicle and trailer in the accident had been given immediate prohibitions, the tractor defect was due to crash damage. The trailer prohibition related to a fractured brake drum and a worn brake drum; the company was convicted of using it with defective brakes.
For the company, Gary Hodgson said there was no suggestion that the brake defects were due to negligence. The company had a good maintenance record. This was an unfortunate error by an experienced fitter.
