L1174] " S.P.111cM." (Brooklyn, U.S.A.) writes :— "I have had trouble with the ordinary sort of wing nuts, and have tumbled on the following little device which keeps them safe. It is the simplest way of
securing these nuts that I have ever seen, and it can quickly be .put into effect. In a sentence, the improvement is effected by sawing off one of the wings with a hack saw. If this be done, when the nut becomes loosened, it will not work off the screw, for the single wing prevents the nut from spinning round, whereas the two wings balance and help it to spin. It may be stated, also, that removing one wing does not, destroy the usefulness of the nut, as it is nearly as useful and convenient with only one wing as with two."
