• Automotive specialist Axial Logistics is close to completing a Elm pre-delivery inspection (PDI) centre at the Port of Tyne, which will handle more than 25,000 cars a year.
Sited next to Nissan's vehicle storage compound and Axial's existing distribution centre at Tyne Dock in South Shields, the centre will include a 1,670m2 workshop for repairs and modifications.
Axial operates technical centres at Sheerness, Kent, Chipping Warden, Northants, and Tilbury, Essex, with another 25 similar facilities across the rest of Europe.
The Tyne Dock centre is expected to create more than 120 local jobs, though an Axial spokesman said the development is unlikely to create further driving jabs,
