HALF-A-DOZEN of the country's leading transport companies have made the latest Sunday limes Top Track 250 list.
The list ranks the UK's top 250 mid-market private firms by turnover, in association with accountancy firm Grant Thornton.
Top of the haulage pile — and at least making it into the top half of the table — is multimodal specialist Freightliner, ranked 72, up from 102 last year.
Next in the list is AG Thames — which runs haulage firm Solstor — up from 134 in 2009.
Unfortunately, no other transport firms appear until the last 50 companies in the list: Clipper Logistics (204); Davies Turner (237); Harry Yearsley (246 — Yearsiey Group); and Palletways (249).
Davies Turner chairman Philip Stephenson says: "To be the only freight forwarder among Britain's biggest mid-market independents makes me very proud on behalf of all our staff and is a testimony to the massive investment we have made in our facilities, services and training over the past 20 years."
However, there appear to be a couple of strange omissions from the rankings in the form of Turners (Soham) and WH Malcolm, both of which are larger than Clipper Logistics according to our sister title Motor Transport's Top 100 list.
