• The old-fashioned qualities of job security and a set weekly wage are top of most truck drivers employment worries, says to a recent survey. More than 7,500 drivers told recruitment specialist People Direct, which carried out the survey, that sick pay, training and clean work were also considered important benefits in a job. One quarter of those surveyed said they avoided driver agencies because of the lack of security and 17 per cent because of dissatisfaction with the rate of pay.
The survey says it believes the disenchantment recorded by respondents reflects the fact that driving as a career is not held in high regard. It plans to use the results of the survey to put together a better work package for drivers.
