CONTRACT HIRE FIRM Fraikin has won a contract extension with Dumfries and Galloway Council to take its current agreement through to March 2012.
Fraikin will replace 23 of the council's refuse collection vehicles 30 months early, with new Euro-4 Dennis Eagle trucks entering service next spring. The contract extension will also give Fraikin additional responsibilities for the council, including taking over the day-to-day fleet management when Ian Simpson, the current fleet manager. retires in December.
Fraikin currently supplies and maintains a mixed fleet of about 300 commercial vehicles support ing the council's combined services division, ranging from street sweepers and grounds maintenance vehicles through to largci 26-tonne recycling trucks.
The work employs 15 full-time staff split between Fraikin's main service facility in Cresswell Avenue, Dumfries, and a satellite in Commerce Road,Stranraer.
