Trailer advertising may be a relatively new phenomenon, but a number of companies are now offering operators the chance to boost their prof its by hiring out trailer sides to advertising agencies.
The project has had mixed success. Ford's distribution division is one of those that carries out this work. Two years ago, one advertising company, In Your Space, had signed up 2,000 trucks for this sort of work.
One of the biggest money spinners with respect to advertising on trucks was the Department for Transport's 'Tiredness Kills, Take a Break' campaign. The advert ran on 170 trucks.
Roadads, one of the first truck advertising companies to be featured in CM, estimates that an operator could make almost £250,000 from a 12-month campaign involving 100 trucks.
However, two years after this moneymaking method was earmarked as the business avenue of the future, few companies have taken advantage of it and the jury is still out.
