It's the end of an era as Charlie Wright leaves Commercial Vehicle
Auctions and strikes up on his own. Kevin Swallow reports.
Charlie Wright has left Commercial Vehicle Auctions (CVA) at Doncaster after 14 years to launch his own auction company. Protruck auctions is due to stage its first sale in mid-October at a purpose-built 15-acre site at Sandtoft. Lines just off the Ml O.
Wright's decision wasn't taken lightly"On a personal level I've been [ with CVA] a long time and could have stayed on," he says, revealing that he had been offered the managing director's job.
Going, going, gone
Instead Wright decided to -chuck a bit of spice" into his life and start up his own fortnightly van, truck and trailer auction sales onTueklays, with monthly sales of plant. This will avoid clashing with Nilanheim (fortnightly on Thursdays at Leeds) and CVA (every third Wednesday at Doncaster).
The name Wright has been synonymous with CVA since 1988, first through his father Chris then with Charlie. But the Ballyvesey I loldings group, based in Co Antrim,Northern Ireland, is now looking for an auctioneer, sales executive and managing director.
We want to improve on services, be more customer-friendly and improve the buying experience," Charlie concludes. 'If you want to sell a lorry, we'll do the work."
And rumours of Chris's retirement have been greatly exaggerated — be doing two to three days a week at the new site. •
