HAVING SEEN THE DEBATE on speed limits in recent issues, I'm writing to tell you that I think raising it to 50mph will make little or no difference.
As a regular user of the A9 in Scotland— a road with a supposed 40mph limit for trucks— I can safely say it's a rarity to see trucks travelling at anything under 50mph anyway All that will happen if speed limits are raised is that those vehicles now travelling at 50mph will instead be racing along at 60mph. Car drivers an the other hand will see little benefit as they attempt to hit 80mph.
The problem with the A9 is not one of speed limits, it's the fact that it is narrow and winding in places and needs an overall upgrade that would befit its status as one of Scotland's main arteries.
