SCANIA HAS raised the bar in the truck engine power stakes, trumping Volvo's biggest engine by designing a 16,4-litre V8 range with a new Euro-6-ready range-topper of 730hp and 3,500Nm.
To complement the power, it gets cosmetic changes, including a black mesh-grille with chrome detail, xenon headlamps with black surrounds and a unique exhaust tail-pipe. The interior features black leather seats with grey stitching.
The revised OptiCruise transmission is capable of handling the
massive torque output with single-reduction hubs, and Scania says that where the old 620hp VS should be geared to cruise at 1,200rpm, the 730hp will be happy at 1,000rpm.
Scania senior vice president Henrik Henriksson says: "You can have a long service life and high resale values, and still do it in style."
Orders are now being taken for September delivery of the R730,
