• Ackers Jarrett has gone under just six months after buying Truckrent, which had an 850-strong fleet.
The Birmingham-based firm called in receiver Arthur Andersen on 16 August. A spokeswoman says it is attempting to sell Ackers Jarrett, which has 2,800 vehicles as a going concern.
No details have been released about the group's debts but a creditors' meeting will be held within three months.
Ackers Jarrett expanded in March by buying Truckrent from the Hartwell Group, which wanted to concentrate on its vehicle dealerships (CM 7-13 March). The Truckrent deal included sites in Peterborough, Leicester, Lincoln and Ipswich.
