• The reduction in the number of goods vehicle thefts in the Metropolitan Police area continued in the third quarter of 1972, according to figures supplied by Scotland Yard to the vehicle security committee of the Road Haulage Association. The number of thefts of or from vehicles in the street fell from 736 in the third quarter of 1971 to 421 in 1972; of vehicles on private premises from 280 to 203; and of hijackings from nine to six.
The goods stolen in the six cases of hi-jacking were clocks, export gin, whisky (two consignments), electrical goods and horsemeat.
