VECO ( UK) MD Guiseppe Franchi, the longest-serving UKbased MD of a truck manufacturer, is leaving after eight years to be replaced by director Chris Thorneycroft Smith.
Franchi will return to Iveco's headquarters in Turin. His next position with the company will be confirmed in the new year, but an Iveco spokesman emphasises that Franchi is withdrawing from the UK market on a high, saying:-Hc has had a very successful run it the UK and now it's time for r new challenge."
Franchi oversaw the introduc. tion of the new Daily, Eurocargo Stralis and Trakker ranges into tin UK. He also managed the transi tion of the Iveco Ford Truck corn pany to Iveco in 2003, and i! credited with boosting sales by t third, from 12,000 vehicles in 199 to over 16,000 in 2005.
In the past year he has beer responsible for the co-ordination o all Fiat Group activities in the UK.
Thorneycroft Smith has beei taking an increasingly high-profili role in Iveco (UK) for some timi and the transition of dutie towards his new role has beei gradual, say the spokesman.
