2010 was a very busy year for Bibby Distribution: it acquired Taygroup and TM Logistics, and it bought contracts from the collapsed MRS Distribution, all of which contributed to a third consecutive year of record trading (that’s turnover and profit).
2011 was quiet in comparison and marked by just the one purchase: Atchison Topeka, which moved Bibby into the food ingredients supply market for the first time and added another £26m to its top line, consolidating its position as the largest privately owned British logistics operator.
Continuing to calmly steer Bibby is its chief executive Iain
Speak, who told CM in the summer that he has plans for more
growth, especially organic, but his and Bibby’s appetite for acquisitions is not yet sated: “We are still in the market to buy, but only on a selective basis.” Speak is a keen long-distance runner and his ambitions for Bibby are similarly long-term.
