Kuehne + Nagel is one of the world’s largest logistics operators, but also one of the quietest and understated – typically Swiss, one might say.
K+N doesn’t make many headlines, but boy when it does! In the spring, it surprised the industry with its lightning-quick acquisition of RH Freight for £66.9m, thereby creating the second biggest mover of road freight between the UK and continental Europe.
The combined stats are impressive: 7,661 staff, 1,675 vehicles and 2,500 trailers. RH’s £130m turnover puts K+N’s UK turnover on the £1bn threshold – and it’s set fair to push through that. It won’t be easy, but Jim Hedderwick told us: “We can now look at our air freight, sea freight, and contract logistics position as there are opportunities to cross-sell and generate volume.” A quiet success story is surely set to continue.
