A CUMBRlAN operator and local councillor is calling for major improvements in the quality of a major road on the English/Scottish border, William Armstrong, owner of Longtown-based family business W Armstrong, is pushing for sweeping improvements to the road joining the A6071 after running from Longtown to Gretna and Springfield.
Armstrong says: 'This is the main route off the M74 into Gretna and it's used a lot by hauliers. There is subsidence, drains are collapsing and it needs to be totally resurfaced."
Armstrong, who recently has taken over as chair of Kirkandrewon-Esk parish council, says he will be pushing for Cumbria County Council to invest more money in improvements on the route.
