Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SURPRISE exhibit at this ek's Brussels Show was N's 12.170F 4x2 rigid; a forrd control 12-tonner fitted th a turbocharged and rge-cooled version of the 5.7t MAN engine which in erally aspirated form is used he MT range.

he show model is one of 50 totypes built by the German nufacturer. Similar 13, 14 and tonnes gvw models are also ier development and are eduled to be in full producby September, in time for Frankfurt Show.

hese new models will fill a in MAN's range between the 136, 10-tonner (fitted with the kswagen cab) and the 16-tonfitted with MAN's own ford-control tilt cab. They are of ticular significance to VAG .) because a lightweight rightd drive 16 tonne gvw MAN,

The in-line, six-cylinder D0226 MKF engine in the 12.170 has a maximum power rating of 125kW (170hp) DIN at 2,800rpm and a maximum torque rating of 5 5 0 Nm (4 0 6Ibft) DIN at 1,600rpm. A 143kW (192hp) version of the engine, uprated through changed fuel pump settings, will also be made available. The only major internal dif ferences between these blown engines and the naturally aspirated version is that the crankshaft bearing material and pistons are changed.

MAN's torque curve for the D0226 MKF reaches its peak at 1,200rpm and stays flat up to 1,600rpm — a characteristic which MAN claims results from its resonant induction system, which is integral with the cast inlet manifold on the 5.7-litre engine. The resonant induction system is also a feature of the "System 6" engines fitted to 281 and 321 models (CM, October 9, 1982).

Standard transmission for the 12.170F is through a six-speed synchromesh, ZF S6-36 gearbox to a Soma, French-built 5.04:1 double reduction rear axle. On 10R-22.5 tyres, the MAN is geared for a maximum speed of 108km/h (67mph).

Unlike its heavier stablemates, the 12.170F MAN's cab has an hydraulic tilt mechanism, and a maximum tilt angle of 60 deg.

Another vehicle of interest to prospective 3 8-tonne UK operators on the MAN stand was a 22.321 FVLS 6x2, twin-steer tractive unit. VAG (UK) says that twin steer rhd tractive units for the British market have been ordered from the factory, but it is not yet clear what their final specification will be.
