LUCAS has designed and produced a lightweight crane, which when installed inside the rear of a van or on a flat truck enables a loading or unloading operation to be carried out safely by one person.
The Swinglift is of steel and forged alloy construction and bolts to the vehicle floor. It weighs 38kg (84 lb) and its lifting capacity is 360kg (800 lb) with a safety factor of five to one.
Power is supplied from the vehicle's 12 or 24 volt batteries. Its waterproof dc motor has an overload cut out protection in the form of self-setting thermal circuit breakers which operate and hold the load if the maximum capacity is exceeded.
The Swinglift's 0.91mm (36m) standard length boom uses 3.7rnm (12ft) diameter 4.76mm (3/10 galvanised steel aircraft cable with a 1,814kg (4,0001b) breaking strain that can be used to raise loads from above or below, ground level and together with the 1.8m (6ft) remote control switch will help to ease the lot of a single-operator collection or delivery service.
