lAVE THE Freight Transport kssociations's 15,000 members yarned all their suppliers not to aise their charges this year or, is I suspect, have they singled put hauliers to give them a blood ransfusion? They must know hat most of their transport providers are even more inaemic than they are.
The FTA admits that many pauliers have been unable to °cover all their cost increases of ast year and even earlier years, rat any attempt to keep hemselves afloat by improving heir revenue "would meet with he strongest resistance from isers."
The railways' restraint on reight rates is held up as an Domple of rectitude but jenerosity with taxpayers' noney is hardly a virtue. The hauliers who through taxes are helping to subsidise the railways are hardly likely to appreciate the FTA's precept. They should refuse to accept higher charges for any goods or service supplied by association members and boycott those who persist.
