• Merlin Distribution has bought 88 Caterpillar C10engined Foden 4380 tractive units to service its contract with J Sainsbury.
They are all sleeper-cabbed 4x2s featuring 380hp (283kW) Cat 10.3-litre engines, Jacobs engine brakes, Eaton RTX14609B nine-speed gearboxes and Rockwell drive axles, New trailers for the contract includes 56 Larnberet reefers alongside 61 Don-Bur boxvans and insulated and dry-freight curtainsiders.
The Fodens, which will operate out of Sainsbury's Hoddesden depot, are also equipped with the Vemis electronic driver management system, This was chosen over Cat's own system on the basis that Vernis is more driver-specific.
