• A London brewery has decided to revive a 400-year-old tradition and resume beer deliveries by horse and cart after it found using trucks to be no faster.
Young's suspended its threetimes-a-day horse-drawn delivery service to pubs in London last June, citing heavy traffic and the increasing incidences of road rage outbursts from car drivers as the main reasons.
The brewery, which has retained its 14 horses and 11 stablehands, is now sending out just one pair of horses each clay, and arranging for deliveries to be made after the rushhour traffic has subsided.
Horse-drawn deliveries are also to be restricted to the 18 Young's pubs in and around Wandsworth.
Young's has a fleet of 20 delivery trucks and, according to the spokesman, there will be no job losses as a result of the move.
"The pubs are quite happy to have the horses back," says the company.
