TRUCK MANUFACTURERS
have come together to help the Metropolitan Police kick off its 'Exchanging Places' cycle awareness initiative.
On 20 January, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Scania and Volvo each supplied a truck to be positioned in a different location in London to show cyclists the blind spots lorry drivers encounter.
Representing MAN, HGV driver Les Robinson says: "It is no good for either lorry drivers or cyclists to be taught in classrooms. This scheme allows cyclists to see what we can see." After sitting in the MercedesBenz cab to view a lorry driver's perspective, one cyclist told CM: "I am surprised at the number of blind spots."
As part of the awareness initiative, Metropolitan Police officers also distributed Fresnel lenses to drivers.
