The police stumbled upon the plant by accident at a warehouse during investigations into the theft of a container load of cigarettes from
a train at a disused station in Co Louth. Six unmarked tanker trailers were immediately seized along with sophisticated processing equipment used to filter the green dye out of the untaxed fuel,
Despite an immediate search, nobody was arrested.
The thieves had used a hacked crane and a stolen artic to transfer a container load of cigarettes from the train to the truck.
The abandoned truck and empty container were recovered the following day near Slane, in Co Meath.
