• A driver tampered with his tachograph so he could get home quickly to "have a warm", West Bromwich magistrates were told.
John Brownridge of Chasetown, Burntwood, Staffs, was fined £250 with 165 costs after admitting making a false entry on a tachograph chart.
Beverley Bell, prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, said Brownridge's 7.5-tonner was checked at a Birmingham car park near the M6 in February: tachograph details between 16:20hrs and 17:15hrs were found to be missing.
It was discovered that Brownridge had used a wire to short circuit the tachograph in a bid to cover up his driving time. Brownridge, who drives for Paul
Starkey Transport of Chasetown, said he wanted to get home quickly to "have a warm" because the cab heater had broken down.
