APETITION has been lodged by the Scottish Area of the Road Haulage Association against the Clyde Navigation Order, under which the Clyde Navigation Trust seek power to operate vehicles for hire or reward, A request to remove the offending clause has been refused.
It is understood that the Port of London .Authority is the only dock authority at present. possessing that power and, in fact, holds an A licence.
The National Road Transport Federation have petitioned against the .maximum tolls proposed by the Dartford Tunnel and Tamar Bridge authorities. In both cases the Federation are pressing for a public inquiry into the proposed tolls and, in the case of the Dartford Tunnel, consultation by the Minister of Transport with users.
East. Nam Corporation are seeking power to make by-laws governing times for the removal of refuse and rubble and to control the types of vehicle used for it. The Federation are taking action against these proposals.
Dundee Corporation are trying to set back the clock by requiring the names of owners to be marked on vehicles. This was a statutory requirement in Scotland until the Road Traffic Act, 1956, was passed. The Ministry of Transport has been asked to take action to have the requirement deleted from the corporation's Provisional Order.
A petition has also been lodged against a clause dealing with material dropped from vehicles on to the roads.
COMMER VAN IMPROVED
VIODIFICATIONS designed to lvi improve the bodywork have been made to the Commer 11-ton forwardcontrol van. Swaging has been added to the main panels to increase the stiffness and strength as well as to improve waterproofing and the antidrum characteristics.
The roof has been modified and the indented side display panels arc now swaged. The lines of the vehicle have been improved by pressing out in the form of wings the panelling over the rear wheels.
