QPECIAL measures are to be taken by the London Transport Executive to combat the effect of traffic delays on the regularity of bus services in Central London when fuel is derationed and congestion returns. Mr. J. H. Giffin has been appointed to the new post of superintendent (running) of Central London buses, and will be in charge of a large force of specially trained inspectors whose job will be to turn, adjust and space buses to beat traffic delays.
The Executive state that the improved running of buses which has taken place since fuel rationing has attracted-large numbers of additional short-distance passengers. Mr. Giffin's appointment is part of an effort to retain this new traffic.
Control points where irregularities can he smoothed out will be increased in number, and extra roadside telephones are being installed so that officials can obtain a better picture of the way services are running.
OBITUARY
WE regret to record the death of MR. GEORGE JACKSON. Mr. Jackson, who was 67, retired last year as commercial sales manager of Sherwocd Bros. (Darlington), Ltd. He had been connected with the motor trade since 1911.
