DRIVERS WHO ARE stopped in Belgium and asked to produce printouts for digital tachographs have been advised to refuse to pay the fines.
Previously drivers who switched between vehicles with digital and analogue tachographs were expected to carry printouts from the digitach vehicles while driving their analogue counterparts.
But after pressure from Belgian road haulage association Febetra, the Belgian Enforcement Agency has changed its approach. Drivers carrying drivers' cards will not need printouts.
Chris Yarsley, European affairs manager at the Freight Transport Association, says previously drivers would have been fined £1,250 for failing to carry the printouts.
"The problem was that the enforcement agency did not have the downloading equipment," he explains.
