AS CM WENT TO PRESS Volvo was unveiling new hybrid products to European politicians and press in Brussels. The event, chaired by West Midlands MEP Malcolm Harbour. featured a new bus and an FM9 6x2 rigid.
Both have diesel engines backed up by electric motors which provide traction at speeds up to 20km/h.
Electric power and charging is via an integrated starter and alternator (ISAD), with claimed fuel savings of up to 35% in urban use.
Customer trials begin next year with mainstream production expected in 2009.
