By Chris Tindall A FORMER EDDIE Stobart driver has been imprisoned for seven years after he torched 14 of the company’s trucks and cost the business £1m.
Ronald Day, 53, admitted 14 charges of arson when he appeared at Chester Crown Court after the haulage company, alongside Scania, launched an investigation into the fres.
Police charged him in September 2011 after LGVs were set alight in Chelford on 15 September, as well as in a haulage yard at South Mimms on 13 June last year. At the time of the arrest, a spokesman for the company said its inquiries indicated an individual was responsible. Day, who was a tramper driver, was placed under investigation before being arrested.
According to local media reports, Day’s defence barrister told the court he held no malice towards Stobart but that he had grown to hate the lonely life of his job.
