• Police are hunting a gang of thieves who kidnapped a security guard before stealing two trailers containing £500,000 worth of Diesel footwear from a haulage firm In Skelmersdale.
At about 03:00hrs on Saturday 10 May, at least four men wearing balaclavas broke into Taylored Lines' transport depot in Pimbo.
They threatened the security guard on duty and held him hostage while they hooked up tractors to the trailers, before bundling him into the back of his van and driving him to Abbeywood in Digmoor. The guard was trapped in the van until a woman heard his cry for help and released him.
Taylored Lines chairman Nick Taylor says: Most importantly, no one was hurt in the incident. This is the first time anything like this has happened since we began. We operate a strict 24-hour security policy and have seven-foot razor fencing but are taking advice about any additional measures that we can take." One of the trucks, a maroon Volvo, was found in Kirby while the other, a blue Scania with the Taylored lines livery, registration number X589 JFR, is still missing.
Detective constable Geoff Williamson from Skelmersdale police says: 'We are appearing to any witnesses to come forward, particularly the young girl who let the guard out."
