• The United Road Transport Union has entered the "final stage" of negotiations to gain recognition at Edinburghbased Chancelot Mill—which was part of Allied Bakeries until its takeover by US firm ADM Milling. Chancelot MM supplies Scottish bakers with flours and bakery ingredients.
According to URTU's regional Industrial organiser Chris Dubber, the union had been attempting to gain recognition in the two years before the takeover but the management had resisted the move. URN now hopes to finalise the agreement with Chancelot Mill by November.
Dubber is pleased with the union's record over the last year in gaining recognition at companies employing HGV drivers. We have managed to get formal recognition at about four companies over the last year in my region including the Port of Tyne Logistics in South Shields," he says.
