• Because of recent regulations and legislation Quickmix Concrete Co. Ltd. has decided to terminate its practice of operating vehicles on C-hiring margin and instead to hire public haulage in future.
This new company policy was revealed to Mr. A. H. Joiliffe, the North Western deputy LA, in Liverpool on Wednesday when three St. Helens hauliers, R. Evans, F. and G. Foxiey and D. Griffiths, applied to him for new B licences.
Mr. W. Griffiths, area manager of Quickmix, said the company wished to terminate the employment of these drivers and would surrender its C-hiring margin under which the nucleus of its vehicles had been provided in the past. The B vehicles would be required to carry aggregates from quarries at Hendre, North Wales ' and Carnforth, Lancashire, similar work having been done during the past 18 months.
He told Mr. G. H. P. Beames, representing a total of 12 objectors, that work would continue for the foreseeable future from the two quarries.
The licences were granted to carry aggregates for Quickmix within 30 miles of base and to and from Camforth.
