Bernard Atkins started his company, F.B. Atkins & Sons of Findern, Derby, 50 years ago. It always puzzled me how a company can be named "somebody and sons" before the event. Anyway, no need to worry; in Bernard's case, he has four sons, all on the board, with his two daughters and his wife.
He has more than 70 vehicles on the road, a big Continental operation and drives a Rolls-Royce, FBA 1. Bernard started in haulage at 18 with four shillings, all right 20 pence. Oh, and another thing: he fought to avoid being nationalised and won. It seems as if he still is. Denis Healey please note or better still move over.
