At the start BRS was split into geographical regions and specialist sector groups. Parcels had a distinct green livery and the short-lived tipper section was painted battleship grey. Meat haulage, initially in insulated not refrigerated demount vans, had dark blue wagons and cream-coloured boxes.
Heavy haulage activities were focused on Pickfords, which was also one of the constituents of the tanker group – both had blue liveries, as did car transport, while livestock lorries were brown.
Later on, regions were allowed their own colour schemes: Eastern – red with a yellow stripe (later brown); Midlands – blue; Southern – orange; and so on.
