• Hauliers face a summer of chaos with the prospect of industrial action affecting both P&O ferry and Eurotunnel services.
Seafaring union Numast is balloting its members about a strike at P&O. A spokesman for the union says stoppages are likely to go ahead at the start of July on all services except Steen Line. The dispute will affect P&O services across the English Channel, the North Sea, the Irish Sea and around Scotland. And the train drivers' union Aslef is threatening to ballot its members about industrial action within the next fortnight as part of a dispute over union recognition with Eurotunnel .
An Aslef spokesman says the strikes are likely to go ahead and predicts that they could start by the end of July or the beginning of August.
He warns that hauliers would face inconvenience on freight shuttle services: "We believe there would be considerable disruption."
