Another long-server to settle down after an exciting life of travel is "Monty's mobile home." The trailer home which carried the hero of El Alamein up and down the desert was built at the Trafford Park works of the former British Trailer Company. It is now to be housed in the Imperial War Museum.
Monty's body specification to Harold Larkin, the BTC md, was surely the most detailed yet shortest on record. "Larkin ! There must be no draughts at head height" (did he ever lie down ?) "and the lighting must be arranged so that I can read wall maps and books from any single position without shadows. Also, the batteries must be positioned so that they can be changed in a matter of seconds." (Bodybuilders, please note.) After a cursory final
inspection Monty accepted the finished job—another satisfied customer. Come to think of it, we should all be happy that he was satisfied: the mobile home played 'a big part in our future.
