That's the ticket
To promote the use of public transport and to provide an incentive to motorists to leave their cars at outer perimeter parks when visiting other cities the Swiss Public Transport Association (VST) has introduced a novel carnet of 10 tickets each valid for unlimited travel for one day on any of the 22 participating systems.
Motoring associations and railway stations throughout the country are among the sales points for the ticket books which cost S.Fr. 35 (£7) or about 70p for a full day of travel. There is no set period in which the tickets have to be used and the validation of each is effected by the user simply by entering the day and date required for travel.
Apart from cities like Zilrich, Basle, Geneva, Berne and Lausanne a number of smaller undertakings like Locarno and Winterthur are also included in the scheme. There are no restrictions on the use of a ticket in more than one city during the day for which it has been validated.
Most Swiss transport undertakings already issue their own all-day tickets but in several cases—Geneva and Lausanne included—they cost more than those offered under the new facility.
