AN interim guide to equitable rates for road haulage has been prepared by the rates and charges committee of the Road Haulage Association. It is intended only as a guide to meet an immediate need created by the lifting of Government control. The schedule is based on the principles laid down in the committee's interim report and
must not be taken as complete or inflexible. The committee is pressing ftrward the production of a complete national rates structure and classifica tion. •
The interim scale, reproduced below, is based on the conveyance of normal traffic which can be carried within the capacity of the vehicle. If a consign
ment of, say, 6 tons demands the use of a 10-ton vehicle, the appropriate rate for a 10-tonner should be charged. The rates are subject to the Govornment conditions of carriage for Government traffic and to such conditions as individual operators may have in force or may adopt in the ease of commercial traffic.
