1k4ANUFACTURED by the Moss IV' Gear Co.. Ltd., and distributed by the Mercury Truck and Tractor Co., Ltd., 19, Loodon Road, Gloucester, a new fork truck, known as the Merlift. has been introduced. Three different models will be put into production, with lifting capacities of 5,000 lb., 6,000 lb-, and 7,000 lb. respectively.
The chassis frame of the Merlift is of box type and is of steel construction. The side plates are 1 in. thick and crossmembers and engine supports are welded. The front axle is not sprung, but the rear axle is fixed to two semielliptic springs. Solid rubber tyres are fitted.
With a piston-swept volume of approximately 3i litres, the four-cylindered engine develops 46 b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m. Magneto ignition is provided. Two forward speeds and one reverse ratio are afforded by the gearbox. Speeds of up to 10 m.p.h. can be attained.
Loads can be lifted to a maximum height ot 9 ft. by this vehicle, the arms of which tilt 5 degrees forward and 10 degrees backwards. The overall length is 7 ft. 6 ins., the overall width 4 ft. 3 ins., and the wheelbase 3 ft. II ins. Unladen weights of the models are 8,700 lb. for that with a capacity of 5,000 lb.; 9,400 lb. for the truck with a capacity of 6,000 lb.; and 10,100 lb. for the type for 7,000 lb. payloads.
