Bodybuilders and manufacturers have been invited to help the DfT ensure sufficient resources will be available. Chris Tindall reports.
THE DEPARTMENT for Transport (DfT) is asking manufacturers and bodybuilders to supply information about their businesses so it can predict how many vehicles are likely to be affected by forthcoming EU type approval legislation.
The European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) regulations, scheduled for 2009, are designed to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy and environmentally friendly without the need to inspect them individually.
To help calculate the likely demand for inspection and type approval services. the DfT is issuing a survey which it hopes will help ensure sufficient resources are available it believes ECWVTA will generate a high demand for these services.
A DfT spokeswoman says: "They are fairly basic questions: the kind of vehicles you produce. how many you produce a year and the size of the business," Anybody involved in the design. production, conversion, completion, sale or import of vehicles is asked to fill in the survey, which can be requested by sending your contact details to Dif at ecwvtaconsult@dft.gsi. gov.uk.For further information see ww w.dft.gov.0 k/roads/vehicl es/ typeapproval
