• The North Eastern Deputy Traffic Commissioner post will be vacant next week when Anthony Richardson retires from it after more than four years.
Richardson, who will continue as a barrister and a crown court recorder, was best known in the part-time role for revoking Hull-based Mightyhire's 0licence on grounds of false accounting in 1991. (CM 10-16 January 1991). He also gained publicity for wanting traffic commissioners to be given power to confiscate vehicles from a haulier which operated without an 0-licence.
Richardson's successor can expect to work three days per month, on a daily income of
£ 177, plus travel and subsistence expenses.

• The North Eastern Traffic Area office is holding a series of two-hour seminars to advise local operators on how to meet 0-licence demands. The first will be on 25 January at The Royal Moat House Hotel in Nottingham and on 17 February at The Copthorne Hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne.
