MAN'S LARGER-CAPACITY derivative of its D20 truck diesel engine, the D26,will be available in TGA chassis before the Euro-4 emissions deadline in October.
It will supersede the D2866 power unit.
An increase in bore from 120 to 126mm gives the D26 a capacity of 11.62 litres and more power. It retains the D20's EGR emissions technology, including an Emitec through-flow particulate trap, to meet Euro4.The new engine will be rated at up to 480hp.
Cooling considerations prevent the D26 developing higher outputs in EGR form, according to MANERF sales and marketing director Dave Cussans.
However, SCR emissions technology will allow ratings above 500hp for long-haul operation. enabling the D26 to match the performance of — and hence replace — MAN's biggest in-line engine, the l2.-litre 1)2876.
MAN says the D26 in 480hp FOR form meets North American EPA 2007 emission standards. It is currently on trial with Navistar as part of an engine collaboration programme agreed by the two companies last year.
