WHAT GOES AROUND comes around, as they say. Reading:II m Ridyard's article on the current Road Safety Bill (CM 19 January) took me back a couple of decades to the North Report.
As the philosopher George San tayana sagely put it:"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat i Each new generation of politicians seems to assume that all change must be for the better, especially in trying to improve road safety.
Attempting to modify people's behaviour by legislation has never worked. Law and justice are often quite different and the proposed legislation will improve safety not a jot hut will make injustices even more rife.
It is safety campaigners, vehicle manufacturers and driving trainers who have brought the fatality rate down in past years, not politicians or legislation.
