Transport manager Gary Hooker was after live tractor units for local work.This would involve plenty of clutch wear and he was keen to minimise it.

Sandford reports:-We insured a trailer for the day and did a short demo to show what it could do."

After the demonstration with Hooker, an experienced driver, and logistics manager Nick Sellicks, Premier snapped up eight of them. Last August five more joined the fleet along with a pair of I-shifts.

Premier had previously used contractors but felt they could do a better and cheaper job themselves. Since taking on the Volvos they have been planning a move into general haulage.

Sellicks explains: "The semiauto boxes are performing well with no nasty surprises and maintenance costs have been kept well within acceptable levels."
